This unique combination of services is tailored to meet the needs of each state's residents and is a free-to-clients service that operates through non-profit organizations and government agencies.
Since 2006, TBB has assisted more than 1 million household members to claim close to $2.5 billion in work and income supports at local sites or through self-service options.
For every $1 spent on TBB, up to $43 is returned to the community in the form of benefits payments and tax credits and refunds.
TBB technology relies on an expert rules engine to provide a comprehensive eligibility assessment and error-free application filing. The service uses this information to populate multiple applications for a broad range of tax credits, public benefits, disability assistance, veterans benefits, and student financial aid.
Since 2006, TBB has been helping individuals file their federal, and in select states, state individual income tax returns for free. TBB makes filing income taxes easy with step-by-step guidance in both self-serve and counselor-assisted platforms. In Tax Year 2016, TBB helped nearly 40,000 tax filers at about 2,000 sites complete their federal tax returns during the tax filing season. Approximately 85% of these tax filers were due federal refunds totaling close to $61 million.
