Communally has been recognized for creating extraordinary positive impact as a business based on an independent, comprehensive assessment administered by the nonprofit B Lab. The honorees were announced by B Lab on September 12 and are featured on B the Change, the digital Medium publication produced by B Lab, at http://www.bthechange.com.
Communally is recognized in the Best for the World Overall list, which includes businesses that earned scores in the top 10 percent of more than 2,100 Certified B Corporations across all categories on the B Impact Assessment. The assessment measures a company's positive impact on its workers, community, customers and the environment.
The 176 Best for the World Overall honoree companies come from 75 different industries and 25 countries. B Lab simultaneously released separate lists recognizing top-performing B Corporations as Best for the Environment, Best for Customers, Best for the Long Term, Best for Community, Best for Workers and Best for the World: Changemakers, which can be found at http://www.bthechange.com. And, the selection criteria for Best for the World honorees are available at http://bit.ly/29ZYRSp.
Communally is also honored in the Best for the World: Changemakers, Best for Customers, Best for Long Term, and Best for Customer lists, which honors positive impact and behavior change among Certified B Corporations in specific categories on the B Impact Assessment.
To certify as B Corporations, companies like Communally must complete the full assessment and have their answers verified by B Lab. This comprehensive assessment evaluates a company’s employee relationships, diversity, involvement in the local community, the impact a company’s product or service has on those it serves, environmental performance, and more. Honorees scoring in the top 10 percent of all B Corporations set a gold standard for companies using business as a force for good.
Communally made the list thanks to exceptional practices like developing technology services that move individuals and families from the daily crisis of poverty to having real choices in their lives; supporting employees with generous benefits; and having an open, transparent conscious corporate culture.
Chris Jacobs, Communally CEO stated “we are proud the Best for the World honors. This recognition is a complement to all of our staff and should be shared with all of our partners. It demonstrates that with employees who are committed and have a passion for impacting communities, you can genuinely be a triple bottom line company that cares about not only profit but also people and place.
A total of 846 Certified B Corporations were named 2017 Best for the World Honorees, including Patagonia; Seventh Generation; National Co+op Grocers; and Business Development Bank of Canada. Forty-eight countries are represented, including Afghanistan, Kenya, Nicaragua, and Turkey.
“Companies like Communally exemplify what it means for a business to be a good citizen,” says Jay Coen Gilbert, co-founder of B Lab. “We’re proud to recognize their achievement. Best for the World is the only list of businesses making the greatest positive impact that uses comprehensive, comparable, third-party-validated data about a company’s social and environmental performance.”
